History
“Reaching new heights in education” is the newest middle school in the St. Vrain Valley School District, Trail Ridge. Located in the recently developed east side of Longmont at 9th Avenue and County Line Road #1, Trail Ridge welcomes students from Columbine, Fall River, and Rocky Mountain Elementary Schools.
School Focus
Guiding Trail Ridge are the following strands:
- Strong middle school philosophy
- High academic and behavioral standards for all students with honors class offerings in all core subject areas for students who need extra challenge
- International focus in all of our programs
- Professional Learning Communities of teachers who collaborate for the benefit of student learning.
Increasing student achievement on CSAP by at least the district average in Reading, Writing and Math across all grade level is a part of the school’s academic goals.
Achieving Academic Success
Achieving academic success for all students is a top priority for Trail Ridge. Several instructional strategies, tools, and programs are in place including:
- A study skills learning module and No Bully Program for all students during the first NINE weeks of school.
- An enrichment and remediation period in which students who need extra help with literacy and numeracy can receive it while those students who need additional challenges can explore alternative options.
- SRI and Reading Counts will be used to inspire students to read a variety of high interest books both during the day and after school.
- Common classroom expectations from grade level to grade level that include, but are not limited to, a consistent way to head papers, a consistent way to take notes, and the use of student planners.
What Makes Trail Ridge Unique
“I Have a Dream Foundation,” a long-term dropout prevention program that encourages the 100 percent graduation of a specific group of identified students. The foundation will stay with 20 of our students, identified as third graders, through the completion of high school and provide them with academic assistance, life skills development, positive role models, and an academic scholarship to the students upon successful completion of high school.
The Grizzly PRIDE Program in which students take responsibility for their learning by requiring students to be on time, have all required materials and complete any homework that is assigned. Students with “Perfect PRIDE” for two weeks are eligible for prize drawings.
Students who are challenged to achieve at their highest potential and will be prepared for the rigorous challenge of all programs at the high school level.
Before/After School Activities
Students are encouraged to become involved in any of a variety of co-curricular activities that include Spelling Club, Yearbook, Student Council, MESA Club, National Junior Honor Society, Soccer Club, Golf Club, Geography Club, Drama, and Music.
Competitive opportunities are available for students who choose to become involved in the After School Intramural Sports Program that include volleyball, basketball, wrestling and track.
