2008 Bond Projects

Thanks to the community, the passage of the 2008 Bond will provide funds for building repairs and infrastructure upgrades.

History

As the school district’s newest high school, Silver Creek’s campus is located in the southwest corner of Longmont. The Commons area is situated so that visitors have an incredible view of the Front Range. A standards-based school, Silver Creek allows students to learn and re-learn concepts until they can demonstrate mastery. Silver Creek is a quality institution of education that holds the standard high, offers rigorous instruction, and quality interaction with teachers.

School Focus

With a rigorous and varied curriculum and a clean and safe environment, Silver Creek is committed to improving student writing and improving math skills at all levels. Specific goals include:

  • Decreasing the percentage of students scoring below proficient status by 9% on the writing CSAP assessment by the year 2008.
  • Decreasing the percentage of students scoring below proficient status by 9% on the math CSAP assessment by 2008.

To work towards meeting these goals, teachers participate in on-going professional development, district and building inservices, teacher book talks, collaboration with other teachers, and vertical and horizontal articulation.

To improve the writing skills for students, a Reading Seminar class and a Writer’s Workshop class have been implemented. Extended writing exercises are integrated throughout the curriculum.

Additionally, daily warm-up questions and integrated word problems are present in the Physical Science, Biology, and Chemistry curriculums.

Achieving Academic Success

Silver Creek practices and believes that given enough time and opportunity, students can demonstrate proficiency. To that end, achieving academic success for all students includes:

  • Counselors who develop four-year plans with every freshman and conduct junior interviews to keep students aware of their credit status.
  • Weighted Honors Courses in 9th and 10th grade for Language Arts, Social Studies, Science. Students taking math accelerate to the appropriate level.
  • Advanced Placement Courses are available in all core curricular areas as well as in World Languages and Fine Arts.
  • A curriculum that includes both remedial as well as enrichment opportunities for students.
  • Language, an interactive reading program for struggling readers.
  • Child Find, a process to identify students at risk for academic failure.
