2008 Bond Projects

Thanks to the community, the passage of the 2008 Bond will provide funds for building repairs and infrastructure upgrades.

History

Opened in the fall of 2000, Prairie Ridge is situated in the Ridge Crest subdivision adjacent to Prairie Ridge Park in Firestone.

School Focus

Through clearly focused instruction and integrated content, Prairie Ridge students are provided with the necessary skills to become competent in reading, writing, speaking, solving mathematical situations, and the use of technology. The main focus for the staff and students at Prairie Ridge centers around student writing. Specifically, Prairie Ridge’s goal is to raise student performance levels in writing to 80% or higher in the proficient or advanced category on the CSAP assessment.

To work towards meeting these goals, the staff has established a Professional Learning Community in which all members work toward student success through collaboration and shared goals. The staff meets regularly through monthly late start days to define learning expectations, to align them with curriculum, to design common assessments, and to create interventions for individual student success.

Achieving Academic Success

In an effort to achieve academic success for all students, Prairie Ridge offers a wide variety of opportunities that include:

  • Large, uninterrupted blocks of time for class instruction in literacy and numeracy.
  • Ability clustering in reading, writing, and math to challenge students to strive to reach their full potential.
  • Small group and bilingual class instruction.
  • A full-time gifted and talented/Literacy instructor to address high achieving student needs.
  • A strong specials (art, music, physical education) program that complements regular classroom instruction to encourage and support students in reaching their full academic potential.
  • Programs to address students’ social, emotional, and academic needs (see Prairie Ridge Pride).

What Makes Prairie Ridge Unique

Prairie Ridge is a group of caring people (staff, administration, and community) who have come together to help each child reach high standards both academically and socially.

A diverse student body that brings richness to each classroom and allows students to experience what life is like in the “real world.”

A strong and engaged parent community that supports the school not only financially but with an active group of volunteers working throughout the building.

Two special evenings for parents and students: (1) An Art, Music, and PE Night that bring students and parents together to experience the arts; and (2) Family Learning Night that brings the community together to explore science.

Kindergarten students attend 1/2 day session Monday-Friday. A fee-based preschool is available for younger students.

Before/After School Activities

Soaring Eagles: a before (7:00-9:00 a.m.) and after (3:45-6:00 p.m.) school child care program that provides a fun, convenient, and safe place for children. Drop-in service is also available.
