2008 Bond Projects
Thanks to the community, the passage of the 2008 Bond will provide funds for building repairs and infrastructure upgrades.
History
As the name suggests, Northridge, established in the 1970’s, is located on the north end of Longmont and is the community center for a beautiful, established neighborhood. The water-wise xeriscape garden provides a striking entrance to a school filled with warmth and care.
School Focus
A school of diversity reflected in the strong and growing bilingual population, Northridge believes that all students need to develop proficiency in literacy and numeracy. Specifically, students will score at or above proficient at the end of a three-year period as measured by the CSAP assessment in the following areas:
- Reading - 75%
- Writing - 65%
- Mathematics - 75%
To work towards reaching these goals, a Professional Learning Community exists that allows the staff to analyze data to drive their instruction, while professional development activities are in place to support both reading and writing efforts including English language acquisition.
Achieving Academic Success
A positive learning environment that includes a bilingual teacher (sometimes two) at each grade level collaborating with other grade level classroom teacher(s) focusing on student needs and maximizing the learning opportunities for both populations of children is in place at Northridge. Additionally,
- Writing is taught for a variety of purposes utilizing Six-Trait Writing, Writer’s Workshop, and Writer’s Express.
- Right Start, Right Connections, and SOAR are used throughout the building for small group reading instruction.
- Flexible groupings at 4th/5th grade to challenge students in both literacy and numeracy based upon pre- and post-testing are in place.
- Investigations and related support materials are applied in mathematics instruction, with math content standards articulated to parents via Family Math Nights.
- Differentiation and extra challenge for students of all abilities.
- Extra activities for students including, but not limited to vocal choir, chess, physical fitness, student council, math clubs/games, and art.
- Challenge classes for students who require a more rigorous curricular focus.
