2008 Bond Projects

Thanks to the community, the passage of the 2008 Bond will provide funds for building repairs and infrastructure upgrades.

History

Nestled among huge cottonwood trees in the Left Hand Valley of eastern Boulder County, Niwot Elementary School was built in the late 1960’s. The school was named in honor of Chief Niwot (means left-handed) of the Arapahoe tribe who were the first settlers of the area. The school is located approximately one mile east of the historic town of Niwot.

School Focus

Awarded the John Irwin School of Excellence Award for the past four years, the staff at Niwot Elementary is committed to being a “School for Differentiated Instruction” with the following goals:

  • Differentiation is for every child.
  • Classroom teachers are vital, and highly qualified teachers play an important part in the differentiation process.
  • Grouping will be flexible.
  • All children have special gifts and our job is to help each child develop his or her gifts regardless of ability.
  • Differentiation involves looking at learning styles, interests, and ability levels.
  • Differentiation is carried out differently at each grade level, dependent upon needs of children.
  • Building classroom community is essential, and this is accomplished through the interaction of a heterogeneous community.

Additionally, we have become a Positive Behavior Support (PBS) School with the following focus which determines how we address behavior on a school wide basis: Positive attitude, Always safe, We are respectful and responsible, and Striving for excellence.

Achieving Academic Success

To achieve academic success for all students, Niwot offers a wide variety of opportunities that include:

  • Extensive gifted and talented services at all levels with nearly 2.0 FTE dedicated to challenge teachers.
  • Green Star School focused on reducing, reusing, and recycling materials. Currently we compost all of our waste and have reduced trash by over 60%. The school has been featured in local and national publications for our dedication to the environment.
  • Strong literacy support for students, especially in kindergarten, first, and second grade.
  • Exceptional special education department which addresses the needs of students at every grade level.
  • Full day, every day, fee-based kindergarden program.
