2008 Bond Projects
Thanks to the community, the passage of the 2008 Bond will provide funds for building repairs and infrastructure upgrades.
History
Niwot High School, located between Longmont and Boulder, presents a beautiful campus including a large community athletic complex, large student commons area, and comprehensive Student Services Center, all complemented by an amazing scenic view of the mountains. Opened in 1972, Niwot is characterized by a rich, long-standing tradition of excellence and features the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma program that is known and respected worldwide for its rigorous and challenging curriculum.
School Focus
School goals at Niwot High School focus on reading, writing, and math with course offerings to meet the needs of students at all levels. Each year, students will demonstrate incremental improvement in the three focused areas. Specifically, by 2008, 93% of 9th and 10th grade students will be reading at the proficient level, 92% in writing, and 89% in mathematics. The Colorado Student Assessment Program (CSAP) scores will be used to indicate proficiency percentages.
In an effort to achieve these goals, the high school staff continues to maintain a focus on language arts and mathematics while continuing to meet with middle school teachers to ensure vertical alignment across all of the core curricular areas. Additionally, a common writing rubric based on Six-Traits is utilized across all content areas.
Achieving Academic Success
Niwot High continues to maintain its reputation as one of the finest high schools in the State and region. This reputation is based on academic success with the comprehensive curriculum. Achieving academic success for all students involves a wide variety of instructional tools, strategies, and programs that include:
- Specialized instructional programming for all grade levels. Traditional, Honors, Pre-IB, Advanced Placement, and IB (International Baccalaureate) programs are available at NHS.
- Literacy 1-4, an elective class option for students whose reading comprehension scores are below targeted achievement levels. This class supports reading in all curricular areas and supports building and district goals for literacy.
- Incoming 9th grade students take Algebra 1, Accelerated Geometry, or Accelerated Algebra 2 as their freshman math selection. Students who are partially proficient in math are required to schedule Preparatory Math as an additional class to support their freshman math selection.
- After school math tutoring on Thursdays for students requesting additional math support.
