History
Serving Mead, eastern Boulder and Western Weld counties, Mead Middle School has a proud tradition of student achievement and parent involvement. Mead graduates are recognized for high school success in academics, music, and athletics.
School Focus
The proven curriculum embraces the district middle school emphasis on reading, writing, numeracy, technology, and civility. Specific school goals at Mead Middle focus on reading, writing, and math.
To meet reading goals, a Literacy Lab provides students reading below grade level with targeted individualized reading instruction, while the Accelerated Reader program is in place for all students to improve comprehension skills. Writing goals are supported through the Six-Traits and the Step Up to Writing programs. Reading and writing are taught across the curriculum in all classes.
The Connected Math Program includes Algebra to enable students to achieve their math goals.
Computer access in the classrooms, labs, and IMC enriches instruction, student research, and student presentations.
Achieving Academic Success
Small classes and standards-based curriculum driven by performance-based data provide support for students to achieve academic success. Exemplary instructional strategies, tools and programs include:
- Two and four person teams teaching the core subjects in blocks of time provide maximum support and intervention for students at different levels of need.
- National Parks are the contextual vehicle for sixth grade students to study earth, physical, and biological sciences.
- Instructional and enrichment programs include Advanced Math and Algebra; Spanish; enrichment science, math, social studies and English classes; instrumental and vocal music; and drama.
