History
The original Lyons school was built in 1881 for the children of the families that were working in the local quarry. A K-12 school opened in 1925 and existed in the town until 1974 when the new Middle/Senior High School opened. As the St. Vrain Valley School District’s only middle/senior high school, Lyons is proud to be celebrating 30 years of rich tradition and history at its present site.
School Focus
Lyons maintains a commitment to excellence in a small school atmosphere that provides a sense of belonging and positively affects a student’s confidence, self-esteem, and sense of responsibility. A continual focus at Lyons at both levels centers around reading and writing across the curriculum with alignment of expectations and a four point writing rubric that is used consistently throughout the building.

What Makes Lyons Middle/Senior Unique
Although the school is a middle/senior high school with a strong sense of community and belonging by both the students and parents, Lyons maintains separate teachers and separate programs for each level.
Forty percent of the student body comes from the surrounding Longmont community.
Ninety percent of the high school students participate in band, choir, drama, or athletics. Middle School students annually perform a musical.
Parent-led activities at the Middle School level include MESA, Geography Bee, and Spelling Bee.
A viable Booster Club supports both middle school and high school academic and cocurricular activities and has been largely responsible for building a wrestling facility and creating a baseball field on site.
All Lyons students receive the time and attention they deserve and the chance to succeed in a small school setting.
