2008 Bond Projects
Thanks to the community, the passage of the 2008 Bond will provide funds for building repairs and infrastructure upgrades.
History
Situated in a pastoral setting nestled among horse corrals and hayfields is Hygiene Elementary. Originally established in 1916, the school is rich in history, tradition, and integrity. The school, as we know it today, was built in 1972. Upon leaving the building, staff, students, and visitors alike are awed by the beauty of the forested foothills and view of the snowcapped Rocky Mountains.
School Focus
High expectations combined with a committed and enthusiastic staff provide a quality learning environment at Hygiene. The staff strives to work together with parents and the community to ensure that all children are successful both academically and socially. The school’s goals are aligned with the district reading, writing, mathematics, technology, and civility goals. The school’s long term goal is centered around writing.
The staff is a successful mixture of talent and experience. Trained in the Six-Traits Writing Process, strategies are implemented on a daily basis across all curriculum areas. Cross grade level articulation along with ongoing assessment are powerful tools utilized on a continuous basis, and the professional development opportunities that the staff participates in serve to improve the educational experiences for all students.
Achieving Academic Success
The staff of Hygiene diligently works toward creating learning experiences to help each child be successful. To that end, achieving academic success for students at Hygiene includes:
- Writer’s Workshop, with Six-Traits incorporated into the instruction, is integrated in every classroom to promote writing skills.
- PALS (People as Learning Support) mentoring program. Individual students are identified and matched with a mentor for reading, writing, or math support.
- Writer’s Club, a before school activity to promote 4th and 5th grade writing skills.
- Right Start, an early intervention reading and writing program available for students in kindergarten through grade 3.
- Numerous field trips to support curricular areas of study in the classrooms.

A high performing school with a tremendous amount of parental support and involvement combine to meet the needs and challenges of all students.

Supporting the school both financially as well as with a commitment of time is an outstanding PTO (parent-teacher organization) that serves as the primary liaison between parents, teachers, and students.
