History
Serving the Tri-Town Communities of Frederick, Firestone, and Dacono, Frederick High School opened its doors to students in 1972. Frederick enjoys a friendly, small town atmosphere in a community north of Denver. The school boasts a new outdoor athletic park that includes baseball and softball fields, batting cages, and a soccer field.
School Focus
Specific school goals are focused on increasing math and reading levels for all students. To that end, the staff continues to implement late start days to gain professional development time allowing them to analyze data and make data-driven instructional decisions. Additionally, an Academic Leadership Team meets to plan staff development and aides in making other academic decisions.
To achieve high standards in reading,
- The staff continues to work toward aligning curriculum across grade levels and creating common assessments that include a reading component.
- Extra support for reading instruction is provided by a Literacy Coordinator who works closely with classroom teachers.
- Ninth and tenth grade students are tested using the SRI to determine reading levels.
- Students are encouraged to choose books rated by the Media Center staff to match their personal lexile reading level, as determined by the SRI.
To work towards achieving high standards in mathematics, the Math Department is reviewing standards and textbooks to better align curriculum and to create common assessments within courses. By giving pre, mid and post assessments, the math staff continually examines data to identify areas of need and to target instruction. Additionally, the Math Department works with other departments to discuss how numeracy can be supported across the curriculum.
