2008 Bond Projects
Thanks to the community, the passage of the 2008 Bond will provide funds for building repairs and infrastructure upgrades.
History
Serving the towns of Frederick and Dacono, Frederick Elementary was built in the 1950’s. Walking into the main entrance of the school, visitors are welcomed by Ellie’s Garden, in memory of a long-time volunteer of the school, and parents often comment about the school’s warm and inviting atmosphere that makes Frederick Elementary “feel like home.” The school grounds and interior were recently refreshed. New grassy areas for PE, beautiful carpet and fresh paint, and a new playground fitness circuit make the school even more inviting.
School Focus
The staff is commited to teaching the fundamental skills of reading, writing, and mathematics.
To work towards meeting these goals, the staff has developed a K-5 Writing Continuum that clarifies which Essential Learnings are critical at each grade level. Pacing guides for each trimester’s instruction in writing and math, along with common assessments, have been developed for each grade level. The development of these instructional strategies and tools have enabled staff, students, and parents to have a clearer understanding of what a child can do and needs to learn as a writer. Beginning in the Fall of 2007, the staff will review its practices for Reading instruction to incorporate most effective strategies in their work with children.
Achieving Academic Success
Frederick recognizes the unique needs of the students impacted by economics and language differences. Literacy support and a bilingual program are specific ways in which these needs are addressed. Achieving academic success for students at Frederick includes:
- A staff commitment to keeping parents informed about what their child has learned and needs to learn.
- An aligned instructional program with intermittent assessments serving as checkpoints to guide instruction and intervention with each child.
- A diversity of successful teaching styles that are accepted and shared in order to ensure successful learning for all students.
- An expectation from parents that they will support their children as learners by providing a quiet place to complete homework, by meeting with teachers at least twice, and by ensuring that their children arrive at school daily and on time.
- Enrichment reading opportunities for those students reading above grade level.
- Enrichment and gifted and talented opportunities for identified students in grades 3-5.
What Makes Frederick Unique
Along with being a K-5 bilingual and Title 1 School, Frederick houses the Little Papoose Preschool, and a half day, everyday kindergarten program.
The Bilingual Program provides Limited English Proficient students with native language instruction up through 3rd grade and English as a Second Language instruction. Exposure to a second language (Spanish) provides an English-speaking child with capacity to learn a second language.
Parents can have the confidence that their children will be challenged to learn at high levels with programs that range special education to gifted and talented education.
A dedicated, caring staff committed to innovation, consistency, and safety within a student-focused environment. A recent parent survey returned to Frederick stated, “Staff is dedicated to educate the whole child and develop personal goals to move each child toward success.”
Before/After School Activities
Choir and Student Council are offered for students in third through fifth grade.
Feeder Pattern
Students leaving Frederick Elementary School will attend Coal Ridge Middle School and then move on to Frederick High School.
