History

Founded on the belief that additional educational options should be available for students and parents, Carbon Valley Academy (CVA) is the newest public tuition-free charter school in the St. Vrain Valley School District. Located in Frederick, CVA serves the communities of Firestone, Frederick and Dacono.

School Focus

High academic standards, a structured learning environment, a passionate teaching staff, effective school leadership, and a positive school culture are the cornerstones of CVA. Committed to challenging and supporting all achievement levels and learning styles, CVA utilizes the solid, proven Core Knowledge based curriculum. Specifically, CVA

  • Believes in small class sizes
  • Emphasizes achievement
  • Believes students should progress at their own learning pace
  • Believes in character education
  • Believes in strong communication links with parents

Achieving Academic Success

Achieving academic success for all students at CVA is a partnership between teachers, parents, and students. Specific programs, tools, and strategies in place to achieve academic success for all students include:

  • A Core Knowledge based curriculum that meets or exceeds Colorado’s Academic Content Standards. The curriculum is research based, time tested and content rich.
  • A mathematics program whose philosophy includes strong number sense and critical thinking.
  • A language arts program that is dynamic and rich in content. Stories and poetry include many of the classics with many of the student anthologies directly related to character values such as friendship, courage, and taking risks.
  • Ability grouping to meet the academic challenges for all students.
