2008 Bond Projects
Thanks to the community, the passage of the 2008 Bond will provide funds for building repairs and infrastructure upgrades.
History
Formerly Frederick Middle School, Coal Ridge moved to its new location in November of 2004 and is the premier middle school in the Tri-Town area.
School Focus
Receiving the Governor’s Distinguished Improvement Award in 2003, Coal Ridge continues to focus in the areas of reading, writing, and mathematics. Specific school goals include:
- Eighty percent of the students will be in the proficient or above categories on the Reading CSAP assessment.
- Seventy-five percent of the students will be in the proficient or above categories on the Writing CSAP and the Math CSAP assessments.
To work towards meeting these goals, curriculum and instruction are guided by specific, clearly stated challenging goals and standards at each grade level. Decisions about instruction are data driven with school wide assessments four times per year to monitor student progress in reading, writing, and mathematics. Results are reviewed as a whole staff, and curriculum is modified and differentiated to meet individual student needs.
Achieving Academic Success
Achieving academic success for all students is a top priority for Coal Ridge. Several instructional strategies, tools, and programs are in place including:
- Block scheduling that includes 60 minute classes daily in the four core areas plus two electives.
- Two 4-person teams at each grade level to provide maximum support for students.
- SOAR, a small group intensive reading curriculum for students reading below grade level.
- The TS Nexus Math Program used in addition to the district adoped CMP Connected Math Program.
- Additional Math and Literacy Support for each grade level team.
- MESA (Mathematics Engineering Science Achievement) for all students but especially targeted for female and minority students.
- An Honors Academy that offers high level, rigorous academics for those students seeking a challenge.
