2008 Bond Projects
Thanks to the community, the passage of the 2008 Bond will provide funds for building repairs and infrastructure upgrades.
History
Reminiscent of a classic Norman Rockwell painting, Columbine is quietly snuggled in historic east side Longmont among majestic oak and maple-lined streets standing as a monument to Longmont’s rich educational roots. The current campus encompasses three buildings including the original red stone building that opened its doors in 1906.
School Focus
A 2004 and 2005 Governor’s Distinguished Improvement Award winner, Columbine Elementary School continues to focus on each student reaching his/her full potential while striving to meet the No Child Left Behind and Adequate Yearly Progress benchmarks. Specifically, Columbine’s goal is to raise student performance levels in reading and writing to 80% or higher in the proficient or advanced category on the CSAP assessment.
Achieving Academic Success
To achieve academic success for all students, Columbine offers a wide variety of opportunities that include:
- Large, uninterrupted blocks of time for class instruction in literacy and numeracy.
- Title I Reading support for low achieving students.
- Gifted and talented clustering to address high achieving student needs.
- A MESA (Mathematics, Engineering Science Achievement) program for all students that has been named the top program in the state of Colorado.
- Consistent school wide rules throughout the building.
What Makes Columbine Unique
A bilingual school that celebrates diversity with a calendar that addresses the needs of the Columbine school community.
Feed the Future, a program in partnership with Boulder County Community Food Share. Weekly, students who have been on time and in school every day for the week take home food from the food bank to assist their family.
Parent Room, a national model for school-based volunteer programs with over 270 volunteers donating more than 10,000 hours each year to positively impact children and community members through tutoring, mentoring, and family assistance.
Before/After School Activities
Columbine offers a variety of after school activities including a computer club, a talent show, soccer, and volleyball/basketball clinics. Columbine’s W.O.W. Program (Walk Or Wheel To School) has been recognized for having the highest participation rate in the nation. Check with Columbine for the most current offerings.
Additionally, Alternatives for Youth sponsors an after school homework program.
