2008 Bond Projects
Thanks to the community, the passage of the 2008 Bond will provide funds for building repairs and infrastructure upgrades.
History
Blue Mountain opened in August 2008. The school is located in the heart of the Meadow Mountain subdivision in south-west Longmont, but its attendance boundaries extend to the west and south to include several additional subdivisions. The name was selected to represent a geographical connection to a mountain in the Front Range as well as a combination of the names of the streets that connect the school to the community at large. The school’s mascot, the Lynx, represents an endangered animal that has been reintroduced into the Colorado high country.
School Focus
Blue Mountain has an instructional focus of Science, Technology and Inquiry. This Instructional Focus is the foundation of the high-quality research based instructional programming that is offered to all students. The natural convergence of the sciences, partnered with literacy, provides students with an outstanding foundation of essential skills while integrating the development of problem solving skills, critical thinking skills, communication skills and the ability to collaborate to enhance learning. This Instructional Focus, paired with state-of-the art instructional technology, provides students with outstanding learning opportunities!
A full time MESA teacher (Mathematics Engineering Science Achievement) further enhances the instructional focus by providing students Science enrichment while also making cross-curricular connections between all disciplines. Every student attends MESA class weekly: grades K-1 class is 45 minutes per week and grades 2-5 class is 90 minutes per week. All students participate in Science Notebooking as a process to develop complex scientific reasoning skills to solidify complex scientific concepts. This process also facilitates cross-curricular connections that are essential to student success.

In partnership with our community, Blue Mountain is committed to reaching ‘Every Child-Every Day’. To achieve this, the school offers a wide range of learning opportunities that include:
- Systemic implementation of inquiry based learning across all content areas
- School wide implementation of Science Notebooking
- Integration of instructional technology to enhance and support student learning
- Enrichment and interventions based on student need including Gifted-Talented programming, Literacy Lab support, Special Education programming, and flexible instructional groups based on individual student need
- Implementation of PBS to create consistent, positive behavior expectations for all students
- Systemic commitment to providing students with cross-curricular connections
- Expand student learning into the community through field trips, guest speakers and monthly assemblies that support the Instructional Focus and school goals
- Professional Development opportunities for all staff to support student success

Before/After School Activities
Camp Lynx: before/after school child care offered from 7:00-8:55 a.m. and 3:30-6:00 p.m. Camp Lynx is also offered during the summer from 7:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. daily.
Community School Classes: a variety of classes are offered for all students that include, but not limited to, foreign languages, science enrichment, sports, crafts, chess, and theater.
Math Olympiad and Odyssey of the Mind: are also offered for interested students.
Family Events: A variety of family events are held throughout the year to build our school’s community. These include, but are not limited to Preschool/Kindergarten Ice Cream Social, Fall Family Fun Event, The Magic of Reading, Earth Week activities, Family Picnic (spring), and Community Gardens.
Camp Invention: is offered in the summer.
Feeder Pattern
Students leaving Bulue Mountain Elementary School will attend Altona Middle School and then move on to Silver Creek High School.
