School Website

Adult Education School maintains a separate school web site [http://ae.stvrain.k12.co.us]. The school's web site makes it easier to communicate news and information to parents. Please visit the web site for more detailed information and events concerning Adult Education School.

In addition to the separate school web site, an overview of Adult Education School is provided [below]. A similar summary is provided for each school within the District to make it easier to find the same information for each of the District's schools.

History

Housed in the historic Lincoln School Building, built in 1916, Adult Education has been awarded the 2004 Governor’s Distinguished Improvement Award and the Program of Excellence Award for 1999-2001. The campus encompasses two buildings on the corner of Longs Peak and Bowen as well as offering evening classes at Heritage Middle School. The school is open each year from late August until the end of July and provides a welcoming environment for all individuals.

School Focus

St. Vrain Valley Adult Education offers educational opportunities for adults, 17 years and older, within the St. Vrain Valley School District.

  • Adult Education offers English as a Second Langauge (ESL) classes, as well as remedial help and Citizenship in the ESL Literacy Lab for non-English speaking students.
  • Students can improve basic literacy and math skills as well as prepare for high school level courses through instruction in the basic skills lab (High School 1).
  • The High School 2 lab provides academic instruction in all core subject areas and a variety of elective options for students wishing to complete a high school diploma.

Adult Education is dedicated to addressing the individual needs of adult learners through one-on-one instruction, scheduled classes, and ongoing teacher/student interaction.

Achieving Academic Success

Adult Education encourages every student to reach a personal best. To help them, several instructional strategies, tools, and incentives are in place including:

  • Flexible scheduling to accommodate each student’s work or family needs.
  • Self-paced instruction to allow each student to work at an individual pace.
  • An effective intake process to ensure that each student starts at the appropriate level.
  • Plato, a computer program, to allow students to complete course work and demonstrate proficiency through computerized exams.
  • Life-skill and academic curriculums that offer language communication skills, reading, science, mathematics, social studies, and contemporary technology.
  • Differentiated instruction, individual tutoring, and independent learning combine to ensure individual student success.
  • The “Quiet Room” provides a location for student study without the usual classroom distractions.
  • Monthly recognitions celebrate perfect student attendance. Prize drawings and rewards encourage consistent learning.

What Makes Adult Education Unique

Fifty percent of Adult Education students are parents whose success impacts the success of their children in school.

An individual with limited English can enter the program and, with study, become skilled enough to earn a high school diploma.

Over 100 volunteers provide classroom tutoring and clerical support.

The fee-based Senior Alternative Make-up (SAM) Program allows high school seniors to earn a maximum of two credits outside their home high school to satisfy diploma requirements.

Adult Education offers GED assistance that includes placement testing, remediation instruction, and the GED Practice Test.

Immigrants with at least intermediate English skills may receive small group instruction to prepare for the U. S. citizenship exams.
