November 15, 2011, Department of Communications
This fall, the St. Vrain Valley School District is launching a District-based email system for middle and high school students. The system, designed to facilitate school and education-related communication, will provide secondary students the opportunity to have an email account with security filters. Your school will provide you more detailed information about the service along with opt-out forms by Thursday, November 17th.
In addition to streamlined communication between teachers and students, here are additional motivations for the District email initiative:
- Safe electronic communication system with protective internet filters.
- More effective enforcement of SVVSD Responsible Use Policy.
- Student access to digital communication tools, including instant messaging, real time document collaboration.
- Parent/Guardian access to their student’s email account upon request.
Parents and guardians who prefer that their student not have a District email account at this time are asked to complete an opt-out form and return it to the school by Friday, December 2nd. Please be advised that parents and guardians can opt out their student from the service at any future time by submitting a signed opt out form. The same is true for opting students back in the email program.
Originally, the District planned to launch the email service on November 28. The launch date has been rescheduled for Thursday, December 8.
If you have additional questions about the student email program, please contact your school principal.
