SVVSD reschedules H1N1 Vaccination Clinics

December 10, Department of Communications

IMPORTANT: The following plans for H1N1 vaccination clinics are subject to change based on the availability of vaccines provided by state and federal health officials.

Free H1N1 vaccinations will be offered to St. Vrain Valley School District students at area high schools beginning December 14. The clinics will be run by the Longmont Clinic and the Boulder County Health Department. The vaccinations clinics are meant for children 5-18 years of age who are healthy. Children under 5 should be vaccinated by the family’s primary provider.

Students will be vaccinated in one of two ways; one being an intramuscular injection and the other being in the form of a “flumist” nasal spray. The form of vaccine is dependent on supplies provided by state and federal authorities. Children who have received a flumist vaccination for the seasonal flu should wait at least 1 month before receiving the H1N1 vaccine.

Children under age 10 will need to receive a second dose of the H1N1 vaccine a month after the first dose to assure full immunity. A second round of clinics will be held in January; dates and locations to be determined. If the clinic location has run out of vaccine, please be prepared to attend a clinic at another high school location.

Students with underlying health conditions such as asthma, diabetes or an immuno-compromised condition should consult their private healthcare provider regarding which vaccination is appropriate for them.

Students must be accompanied by their parent or a legal guardian, who will need valid identification, to receive the vaccine. Families are requested to attend the clinic closest to their home. At this time, Weld County Department of Health is offering clinics within their county, but not within our school sites. Therefore, St. Vrain students who reside in Weld County may visit any of the four District sites for vaccination. The clinics will be held from 5:30 – 8:00 PM, and the locations and dates for the first round of vaccinations are as follows:

FIRST ROUND: December 14 through December 16
Longmont High School Monday, December 14 Auditorium
Niwot High School Tuesday, December 15 Commons
Silver Creek School Wednesday, December 16 Commons
Skyline High School Wednesday, December 16 Commons

Important: The vaccine is not recommended for individuals who:

  • are allergic to eggs or egg products
  • are sensitive to Thimerisol (a substance used as an antiseptic and germ killer),
  • have a fever or active respiratory infection or other infections, and/or
  • are seeking the H1N1 vaccination less than one month after receiving the vaccination for seasonal flu

St. Vrain Valley School District is not liable or associated with the vaccine administration or the effects of the vaccine.

This service is dependent on the timely receipt of the H1N1 Flu Vaccine from state and federal officials. Please check the St. Vrain Valley School District website, www.stvrain.k12.co.us, for any changes to the above schedule. For more information, please contact 303-772-7700 and ask to speak with a district nurse.
