Human Resources - Frequently Asked Questions

When will I get my first paycheck?
District employees will receive their first pay the last working day of the month (provided that your paperwork was complete and submitted by the monthly payroll deadline of the 10th).

Do I have to have direct deposit?
Yes. All employees are required to have their wages directly deposited into their account. A pay stub will be delivered to your school site on or shortly after pay day. Wage disbursement is also available on a PAYMAST’R, direct pay check cards. More information is available at www.paymastr.com.

How does payroll processing work?
All district employees are paid monthly, on the last working day of the month. All payroll/employment paperwork must be complete and submitted by the 10th of the month in order to be reflected on the current month’s pay stub. This includes any assignment corrections and adjustments in pay.

How do I get my email address?
Upon completion of your employment paperwork, your name will be added to a district new employee list and submitted to the Department of Technical Services. From there a technician will contact your school site with your email set up information. Email accounts are not given to substitute or temporary employees.

Will I receive benefits?
Benefits eligibility is based on your employments status and the number of hours you work per week. If you work 17.5 hours/week or more, you are eligible for insurance benefits. If you work 10 hours/week or more, you are eligible for life insurance benefits. If you have questions related to benefits information, please contact the Benefits department.

How do I sign up for a benefits orientation meeting?
Upon the completion of your employment paperwork, please see the Human Resources Department Secretary for available meeting dates and times to sign up for a benefits orientation.

How do I change my name or address with the district?
Address changes need to be requested in writing. Please either fill out an Address Change Form or send an email to the Human Resources Department Secretary. To change your name, you must present a valid social security card. Please come into the Human Resources office to fill out all appropriate name change paperwork.

How do I change my direct deposit information?
Direct deposit forms are available in Human Resources or online. Once the form is completed, a voided check should be attached and then sent to the district payroll office.

What is Highly Qualified?
Highly Qualified is a term used to describe a qualified educational instructor under the federal No Child Left Behind Law that was passed 2001.

For licensed staff, you are considered highly qualified if you hold a current Colorado teaching license, hold a bachelor’s (or higher) degree, and have demonstrated subject matter competency. Subject matter competency can be obtained by passing the HOUSSE provision, passing an appropriate core content exam or successfully completing 24 hours of semester coursework in a content area.

For classified staff, Title I paraprofessionals are required to be highly qualified. In order to gain this status, you must have successfully completed 2 years of college (or 48 semester credits) or passed the PRAXIS ParaPro Assessment.

For further information about how to become Highly Qualified, please contact Human Resources.

How do I move on the lateral scale?
Licensed educators may move laterally on the teacher salary schedule by completing additional educational credits. Lateral movement coursework should be graduate level, district in-service or prior approved out of district work that has been completed. Lateral movements are granted in increments of 20 semester credits. Official documentation of completed courses is required (i.e. official transcripts). In order to qualify for a lateral movement, credits must be completed by September 1st or January 1st. Lateral movement paperwork must be received in Human Resources by October 15th or February 15th.
