Department Overview

The Department of Assessment, Curriculum, and Instruction oversees the assessments used to measure achievement, the curricular materials, documents, and guidelines that are available in classrooms, and the instructional philosophies and practices used in the District. We believe in empowering teachers with the right data, materials, tools, and training, so they can focus on the art of teaching and educating students.

Oversight

The department is responsible for many projects imperative to the success of our District. The District strategic priority of Standards-based Education Alignment is a major project that our department is leading at this point with an implementation deadline of the 2011-2012 school year. Textbooks and all curricular materials are adopted with the direction of our department. We are currently working to define core instructional practices for each content and level. Our department also has oversight for all assessments for both the state and local level including CSAP, CELA, and ACT. Local assessments include: Advanced Placement, formative assessments such as Galileo benchmarks, and the District-wide Algebra 1 assessment. We are also involved in many more areas such as Response to Intervention (RTI), Literacy, and Math Engineering Science Achievement (MESA).
