2007-2008 Annual Report to the Public
St. Vrain Valley School District is excited to provide the community with our 2007-2008 Annual Report to the Public. This report fulfills the legal requirements for No Child Left Behind (NCLB) legislation and Colorado Accreditation.
In an effort to conserve paper and wisely use taxpayer funds, we are posting this report online with links to District data and the Colorado Department of Education (CDE) web site. The data includes assessment, accountability, teacher quality, post-secondary readiness and other information highlighting the district’s performance, progress and goals.

Assessment Data
- Colorado Student Assessment Program (CSAP)
CSAP is designed to provide a picture of how students in the state of Colorado are progressing toward meeting academic standards in specific content areas, and ensure learning success. Results are disaggregated by race/ethnicity, English language learners, economically disadvantaged students and students with disabilities.

- Colorado Growth Model
The Colorado Growth Model provides a way for educators to understand how much growth a student made from one CSAP administration to the next. It also allows districts to compare students in the same grade level with others throughout the state.

- Colorado Student Assessment Program Alternative (CSAPA)
CSAPA is given to students with the most significant cognitive disabilities to assess their reading, writing, math and science content knowledge.

The School Accountability Report (SAR) provides valuable information about individual schools throughout the District. Among other items, you can learn about a school's achievement designation, academic performance, CSAP results, safety and discipline incidents, attendance rates, student/teacher ratio, teacher qualifications and how taxpayer dollars are spent.

- Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP)
AYP is the federal accountability measure for schools and districts under the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) legislation. The report includes overall AYP determination for schools and the District.

- Title I Schools on Improvement
Title I federal funds are available to schools who have been targeted for assistance based on performance and other factors. Funds are used for additional academic support to those students most at-risk of not meeting the state’s math and reading standards.
Out of 47 schools in the St. Vrain Valley School District only two are on Title I Improvement Status. Columbine Elementary School’s improvement plan focuses on reading and math, while Spangler Elementary School focuses on reading.
- Accreditation of Schools
The Colorado Department of Education (CDE) annually reviews and accredits the St. Vrain Valley School District. The District is then responsible for accrediting its own schools. School Accreditation is based on a number of performance factors, including student achievement levels, academic growth and progress toward school improvement plans.

- Highly Qualified Teachers/ Professional Qualifications/Teacher Licenses
Federal legislation requires that all teachers teaching in core-academic content areas meet the requirements for being designated as “Highly Qualified.” These teachers are fully licensed, endorsed in the subject area and demonstrate competence in the content area.
The professional qualification for teachers in the District is high. Almost 45% of St. Vrain Valley School District teachers hold advanced degrees and only 8% hold first time/initial licenses.

Post-Secondary Readiness Data
- Advance Course Enrollment
Post-secondary readiness indicators include a wide assortment of variables including: students taking Advanced Placement courses, International Baccalaureate, Honors and Concurrent Enrollment.

St. Vrain Valley School District maintains a low district-wide drop out rate of 3.1%.

- ACT Composite Results
The ACT college entrance exam assesses student preparedness for opportunities beyond high school. Results show District composite scores compared to state average.
